Yo estaba escribiendo una función con los manifestantes en el campamento Ocupar Liverpool. No reconocí el número que destellaban, pero supuse que era alguien del trabajo llamando para comprobar algo que yo había escrito, o uno de nuestros fotógrafos con retraso en la nieve.

Me sorprendí al encontrar que en vez de eso fue uno de los más grandes músicos de todos los tiempos, concertar una entrevista.

Él es un icono - el pulgar hacia arriba, la composición, la banda más grande del mundo nunca. No lo que esperas cuando estás atascado en una carpa en la nieve, la conducción fuera de Salón de San Jorge.

Y lo que es un hombre encantador. Cuando le dije donde estaba, parecía que se trate. "Espero que no haga demasiado frío ahí arriba", dijo, con simpatía. "Manténgase caliente, ¿no es verdad."

No tuve el corazón para decirle que llevaba dos pares de pantalones, tres puentes, dos capas, una bufanda, gorro, guantes impermeables y un.

Afortunadamente Mac, como Macca, vio el lado divertido. A veces sólo tienes que reír cuando la vida te toma por sorpresa.

Jade Wright: How McCartney caught me by surprise
So, there I was, sitting under a tarpaulin outside St George's Hall, when Sir Paul McCartney called my mobile.


I was writing a feature with the protestors at the Occupy Liverpool camp. I didn't recognise the number that flashed up, but I assumed it was someone from work calling to check something I'd written, or one of our photographers running late in the snow.

I was surprised to find that instead it was one of the greatest musicians of all time, arranging an interview.

He's an icon -- the thumbs up, the songwriting, the biggest band in the world ever. Not what you expect when you're stuck in a tent in the driving snow outside St George's Hall.

And what a lovely man. When I told him where I was, he sounded concerned. "I hope it's not too cold up there," he said, sympathetically. "Stay warm, won't you."

I didn't have the heart to tell him I was wearing two pairs of trousers, three jumpers, two coats, a scarf, hat, gloves and a waterproof.
Thankfully Mac, like Macca, saw the funny side. Sometimes you just have to laugh when life takes you by surprise.
